Prenatal ultrasound screening

A targeted anatomy scan is an ultrasound examination performed at various stages of pregnancy.

This scan is conducted when there is a suspected anomaly in the fetal organs or systems.

It is important to note that this test can aid in completing a genetic evaluation, consulting with pediatric specialists in relevant fields, and performing additional imaging tests such as fetal MRI.

What does the scan include?

A targeted anatomy scan focuses on a specific organ or system, depending on the suspected anomaly.

For example, if there is concern about a congenital heart defect, the scan will focus on the heart and major blood vessels.

The physician performing the scan will use advanced ultrasound techniques to examine the organ or system in as much detail as possible.

Additionally, as part of the examination, a general assessment of other fetal organs and systems will also be performed to ensure their proper development and to rule out additional abnormalities.

Important Notes

  • A targeted anatomy scan is not a definitive diagnostic test.

  • The results provide a statistical assessment only and should be considered alongside the patient's medical history and findings from other examinations.

  • Decisions regarding the continuation of the pregnancy should be made after careful consideration and consultation with an obstetrician and other relevant medical professionals.
